Gamesday 2005 Model

I was BACK IN BUFFALO!  Back where it all started for me, and this time in charge.  Which meant, in practice, I got to paint the promo models of my choosing.  If it's a Space Marine, and could even be an Ultramarine, I had auto-dibs.

I did enter him into a Golden Daemon contest many years later, where the poor guy sat on his display card, never even making it to the first cut.  Oh well, I'm not that good and and this model kicks ass nonetheless.  I enjoyed it, hope you do too!

Now that's a face only a Marine could love!

  1. Nice job on the marines' face which was certainly well painted.

    1. Thanks! I enjoy painting flesh (mostly Space Marine heads, since I have so much experience with them). But I'm unhappy with the dood's left eye as there was some poor molding that I didn't get to until I already started painting and that kept me from getting it good. But all in all, a fun model to paint! Nothing says awesome like a Power Fist and studs everywhere...

    2. Yeah ... most times when I am impatient while cleaning and prepping a mini for an undercoat I will always regret it later when halfway through the basecoats I realise the mother-of-all-ugly-mold lines making the mini look terrible. Being the lazy sort who have yet to completely strip away the paint and redo a mini, I always try to fix a mini by painting more layers (which goes against my mantra of painting only thin layers) and end up making it worse. lol

  2. It may not be Golden Daemon winning, but it certainly kicks ass, both as a model and a paint job. Very cool looking! I may be stealing some ideas from you Ultramarines for my commission. Thanks for the return inspiration!

    1. My pleasure! And thanks. I enjoy painting blue on mean-looking marines. Too many years of people knocking the Ultrasmurfs have made me very vindictive with the bristles (or at least back then). lol!
And your guys look great! Of all the armies I have, between yours and FourEyed's, my Ultramarines call to me. Thank both of you guys for that. Were it not for good-lookin' models like y'all's, I'm not sure my Ultramarines would ever see the light of day again. Instead, I pull them out once a month and remind myself that it's my favorite. :-)
