This isn't just a hobby about the gaming- there's also the painting part too! My brother has all his models built and we have to prime them so we can paint them, but we need to base the models first. So I pulled out my old black-shirt trainer skills, the materials we needed, and commenced to teaching. Feels like the old days...
To base the models, we pulled out the tub of sand, white glue bottle, a large paintbrush, and the water to keep it clean. The process is simple- squirt a little white glue onto the base of the model, spread it around with a wet brush to cover the top of the base completely, dip the model into the tub, and shake off any extra sand that doesn't stick.
Step 1: Gather the materials needed |
Step 2: Squirt the glue onto the base (not too much!) |
Step 3: Spread that glue around the base with a wet brush |
Step 4: Dunk the entire model's base into the sand |
Step 5: Tap off any sand that isn't sticking back into the tub |
Step 5.5: Wipe the outside of the base ring to take off any sand sticking to the wrong area |
Step 6: Let them all dry! |
Now that we have the models' bases done, we can prime the models. We chose black, which means that the basecoat step is going to be a process as well. To begin, we chose to do multiple [thin] coats of Mephiston Red- three coats, in fact! This is where the "water is your friend" principle is best reinforced as the goal is to have smooth, clean coats of colour.
Here was the stopping point for the day-a fully basecoated unit of red Assault Intercessors. But not being satisfied with just them, we pulled out the Retributor Amour gold spraypaint and gave the Blood Angel's captain a quick base-spray. After that dried, we did a wash of Reikland Fleshshade and instantly reduced my brother's fears of painting gold. Success!

That's where we are so far, with more to come.
Happy Hobbying!
