More players!

I met a wonderful gentleman at ReaperCon with an even stronger unhealthy obsession with Relic Knights than myself.  It turns out that we don't live far from each other at all and he invited me to his LGS for some gaming.  Nowadays, I'm retired from the shop-hopping and barely visit the LGSs here in my own area, but finding gamers for this game is nearly impossible (there just aren't any these days!), so I emerged from my solitude and made the travel to Dragon's Lair in Austin.  The store is amazing- and a much more family-friendly atmosphere than any other game store I've visited.  There's plenty of space, plenty of product, plenty of staff, and plenty of 'ambience' to make the drive worth it.

Most importantly to me, however, was the game group that I'd be meeting.  My 'sponsor' buddy and his friends were all really friendly and willing to play anything but 40k (including OPR and Starcraft- games I never saw in public!).  The guys (and ladies, of course!) were all interested in each others' paint jobs, explaining rules, and showing off their latest obsessions.  So when we pulled out the Relic Knights, everyone was eager to learn about the game or even remember that they already had it from years ago!

This, obviously, led to games.  I used my Starter Box models against a guy learning with the Empire of Noh.  My rear-end was handed to me, but it was a great opportunity to get him excited for the game and for me to understand how that warband works.  They are going to be my next painting project- the models are so cool!!!  And the guy that whooped me was indeed excited- so all a win for me.  While we were playing our game, my buddy was proctoring a game between a couple older gamers, one of whom already played back in the day.  The terrain setup for both games was eye-catching, but his table really captured that city style and even had models based to match.  Talk about attracting new eyes!

His awesome table!

  Happy Gaming!
